WOMEN EMPOWERMENT AND ITS NEED
Jawaharlal Nehru said, "Women should be uplifted for the upliftment of the nation, if a woman is uplifted, society and nation are uplifted.
Women empowerment is the notion of giving authority to women in different fields. So that they can assess their roles and make choices and their own decisions. In short, it means giving power. Power here implies control over assets and resources. Through this notion, it is expected from women to be a master of their own life. And make informed decisions for themselves. To have freedom of choice one should first lay emphasis on awareness. Empowerment is about getting aware of everything in the community. Then comes the point of choosing something and changing them according to you. There is not only one single reason for empowerment. But one main reason can be women enhancing their own self-respect and self-dignity.
Women must define their own goals and needs for the development of the nation. They should not be treated as targets in development but as agents who can help in achieving a goal. The whole point of empowerment lies in educating them. So that, they can make informed decisions, like an educated person. They can be independent of this.
The need for this idea of women empowerment is because we have a gender-biased society. A society that prefers males over females. After so many years of independence, some women are still not able of executing their personal decisions. What can be the reason behind this? There can be various reasons but the root cause can be a lack of education. If provided with proper education they can reach great heights. They can definitely help in the moderate and social development of the country.
We should work towards a society that grants equal status for both men and women. If not independent economically, a woman can never share equal status as a man. Getting independent is a weapon against discrimination against her. Women are seen as the backbone of their families. If they will be empowered then they will raise their children in a better way. Empowering women will help them to perceive their lives as confident beings. They can be well informed about their rights as a person and who can take their own stand.
